Skoga took a volcanic hit
An all to frequent sight on the Skoga this season. Blame it on the volcano!
The season of 2010 on Skoga has been a disaster starting with the unfortunate volcanic eruption in the Eyjafjallajökull glacier last spring. The river has been dark and murky throughout due to ash making its way down the watershed.
Only just over 100 salmon have been landed which is in itself a minor miracle as the river has at times looked more black than brown. Let alone clear as it should be.
Over the course of the first weeks the salmon did not even enter the river and the outfitter had to continuously dig out the pools and the estuary as they kept filling up with ash. A hot summer and a very rainy late season did not help at all.
However these things do not last forever and the outfitter Asgeir Asmundsson is already looking forward to next season as he looks like aquiring enough salmon for the brood stock. Expect the winter rains and floods to finish off most of the ash fields close to the river and most likely all will be well again next year!
Despite all, some anglers did have some success!
