Sogid looks like breaking its old record

A feature on Sogid this season were very big and healthy grilse. This photo is from the angling club Sogsmenn
It looks as if Sogid will be registering a new record catch this season. It has been consistently excellent this season and has been a sort of dark horse as all eyes have been on the record breaking rivers on the north coast.
We do not have the most recent total but the main beats had produced some 650 salmon on the 8th of September. The record dates back to 1988 and stands at 714 salmon. The river is broken up into several three rod beats with self catering lodges, so it takes an effort to compile the total statistics. Despite the excellent fishing, some of the main beats have been overly poor, for instance the Alviðra, which in some years is one of the top beats. Bíldsfell, Ásgarður and Syðri Brú, all of them above the lake, have been outstanding this season, while Alviðra and Þrastarlundur have been poor. Both are below the lake and the theory is that there could be a seal hiding away somewhere in the glacial Olfusá which is spooking the salmon on the lower beats and causing them to scramble through the lake to the upper beats.
