The Straumar beat, the junction of Nordura and the glacial Hvita has started producing good catches far earlier than usual. Five were landed there this morning.
Looking at several other pools following our article on Hnausi on Vatnsdalsa it is astonishing how prolific very small pools on tiny streams can be. One such pool is the Bridge pool on the Leirvogsa which stands at best as a small stream. Yet it is one of the countries best salmon “rivers”.
Straumar, the junction of Nordura, Gljufura and Hvita has been very productive this season as is usual during long draughts. The lowering water levels of the clear rivers inspire the salmon to stay longer in the junction.
The Straumar beat at the junction of Nordura and Hvita took off recently and four days of fishing with the two daily rods saw 57 salmon landed. You heard right: 57. This is in fact not that uncommon but the conditions need to be right.
A trout fisherman(probably hoping for a salmon!) fishing the beat Straumar, the junction of glacial river Hvita and clear rivers Nordura and Gljufura, landed a fresh run 8 pound salmon yesterday morning. The salmon season does not officially start until Friday morning, but this is far from being the first time trout fishermen trip over early running salmon.
