Straumar beat productive as usual

Straumar, the junction of Nordura, Gljufura and Hvita has been very productive this season as is usual during long draughts. The lowering water levels of the clear rivers inspire the salmon to stay longer in the junction.
Recently Straumar had produced 350 salmon on two daily rods which is outstanding as the fishing is mostly in the same pool, the lower part of Bugt and Strenghorn, the short “V” at the end of Bugt, perhaps only some 30 meters long, while the whole of the fishable area is hardly more than a 100 meter stretch along the north bank. It may not sound like much, but this is a large volume fishery and there is plenty of room for a lot of fish there
Since August started to near its end, the fishing has declined as the big runs are over and the remaining stacked up fish started to move out along with some rain and the lengthening shadows of the fast shortening days. Since mid July some very presentable sea trout fishing has been an add on for the anglers and the total is up to some 200 or so. Most of them are in the smallish category, 1 to 2 pounds but all of them powerful and fresh run. A few sea trout have been in grilse proportions, the biggest up to 7-8 pounds. All in all, an excellent season for Straumar. The season ends at the end of August.
