Record for northeast based Svalbardsa
A beautiful mws from Svalbardsa this summer. Photo by Jon Thor Juliusson.
The northeast river Svalbardsa finished with a new record catch this season, the final total was 446 salmon, the earlier record was close to 380 from severals years back. So Svalbardsa turns out to be the only record breaker amongst the northeast rivers.
Last year it was the neighbouring Hafralonsa, this year it‘s Svalbardsa. It is the only northeast river among several Icelandic rivers to register new record catches. The total is an outstanding one, 446 salmon, while last year was very, very good with the catch exceeding 300 fish. The river is fished with 2 to 3 daily rods according to the time of season. It is an average volume river and is fly only/catch and release, so there are obviously some multy-caught salmon (though hardly more multy than double)
One of the outfitters, Jon Thor Juliusson told us that the average size of the salmon this year had been amazing, the number of mws‘s had exceeded anything easily from the last seasons and there were several fish ranging up to 20 pounds. Jon also told us that they had found some repeat spawners, salmon tagged last year had been recaught this year. We will tell you more later on that interesting matter.
