Local angler Árni Geir Pálsson shows us the Svalbardsa twenty pounder before releasing it.

Svalbardsa has opened with a bang. Its first day was July 1rst and already over a hundred salmon have been landed which is among the best starts ever for the river. Most of the fish so far have been mws's which is also great news.

The outfitter Jón Thor Júlíusson told us that this great start was a pleasant surprise and that the signs where that the outstanding fishing would continue as the runs have been consistently strong. The other day the Svalbardsa became yet another river to yield a twenty pounder as a local angler hooked, landed and released a 98 cm cock fish, using a red Frances tube fly in the bottom pool, Óshylur, translated: Esturary pool.
