The operators of Vatnsa have decided to have an official hitch week next summer following some outstanding results with hitched tube flies.
Our listed river Vatnsa looks like being Iceland's top salmon producer per daily rod for the second time in three years. That stands for a major shift as the rivers rise to prominence is only 4-5 years old.
Vatnsa ended on a high note last weekend as well as with a bang as a gale force low pressure system raged over the southern part of Iceland, flooding most rivers . But as the water level receeded as the weather steadied, the fishing picked up big time and the fishing ended on a high note.
Vatnsa is starting to improve following some unheard of draughts in one of Iceland‘s main rain regions. It is a late starter and usually has no salmon until August. However the draughts kept the river low and the fishing was a bit slow as a result. Improvement has though been apparent recently.
The owner of Vatnsa, Rudy Lamprecht, and his trusted right hand in Iceland Asgeir Asmundsson, have started the unusual proceedings of lengthening the river from its mere roughly three kilometers upto a more robust seven to nine kilometers.
The Atlantic salmon season of 2009 is fast building on the horizon. And it comes on the back of such a stunning record season that hardly anybody knows what to expect this year. But for the most part people have concluded that the coming season has a considerable margin for slipping from 2008 without losing a label of excellence.
