One of three salmon exceeding 20 pounds from Vatnsa last season.

For the second year running Vatnsá produced a massive new record catch. This year the total exceeded 900 salmon, in fact it went close to one thousand, up by over 200 salmon from 2007. This season the salmon were running far earlier and groups fishing during early August were having a grand time. In 2007 there were no salmon to be seen at the same time. Following some massive raining during early and mid September, the fishing went totally berserk and one week yielded one hundred salmon which is an average of just over seven fish per rod per day. Some of the days nobody was fishing so those who were actually had far higher averages. One day closed with 60 salmon landed. Most of the salmon were good sized grilse but there was a fair sprinkling of mws-salmon and three salmon exceeded 20 pounds. There were good sea trout runs as well, most of them 2 to 5 pounds. Also several bigger, the biggest one being estimated at 18 pounds, caught in Frúarhylur.
