Good season on Vesturdalsa
The small and delicate Vesturdalsa had a good season. Until recently the river was the center of a research program aimed at restoring faltering salmon stocks. It was purely fly fished with a strict catch and release policy and it seems to have done its bit in reviving the river.
Vesturdalsa looking lively
Vesturdalsa in the northeast Vopnafjordur only opened this afternoon and things were looking relatively good all things considered. There were salmon running the river, sea char also. A few salmon have actually already been landed.
Fair season on Vesturdalsa
The records were not set in the northeast, which did though have a good solid season. What was lacking in these parts in 2008 were strong grilse runs. They were weak and many of the grilse were abnormally small. The bigger fish were propping up the season and along with the catch and release system on the river the quality was very good and the average weight of the catch very big.
