Fair season on Vesturdalsa

Two 20 pounders caught the same day several years ago in Vesturdalsa grace the lodge's wall.
The records were not set in the northeast, which did though have a good solid season. What was lacking in these parts in 2008 were strong grilse runs. They were weak and many of the grilse were abnormally small. The bigger fish were propping up the season and along with the catch and release system on the river the quality was very good and the average weight of the catch very high. The biggest salmon caught were not weighed but their measurements were 96 and 104 centimeters, the bigger one obviously well over the twenty pound mark.
All in all, the total for Vesturdalsa was 120 salmon plus 400 sea char. It is considered a good season all things accounted for.
