Breiddalsa: Lively start to the char fishing

Fresh run sea char are extremely popular in the kitchen! Both photos from www.strengir.is
Fishing for arctic char in the estuary of Breiddalsa and for brown trout in the upper reaches of the river started at the turn of the month. The start was good and promising, although nobody actually tried for the browns. Those on the river went for the char and did not find them wanting.

One of the guides, Suddi, pulls one towards the landing net.
The river is rather sparsly fished in May and this time around the opening days were actually available. So with no clients around, some of the guides called in some friends for a spot of fishing. Despite being in lazy mode, twice over the first two days, two anglers went down to fish the low tide moment, landing ten char on each occasion. They were mostly fine fish, averaging 2 pounds or so and caught on weighed flashy streamers. Some groups will be coming over the next days and weeks so we expect more news, and not only from the char fishery but from the brown trout stretch as well. Summer is as good as here by now and the tempertures are reaching normal summer averages, especially in the southeastern part of the country.
